CNC Machinist

Key Responsibilities

• All set up from paperwork for blueprints, fixtures, and gages
• Positions and secures tools in machine as instructed by process sheets and set up procedures
• Sets controls to set specified speeds, feed rates, and depths of cuts
• Positions and secures product in jaws or fixture
• Indexes machine and adjustments positions of tools at each operation in relation to product to assure clearance between moving parts and machining of specified dimensions and tolerances
• Run first piece and checks to stated dimensions
• Observes operation and changes tooling and inserts as necessary during operations
• Verifies conformance of machined product to specifications as stated in inspections sequence
• Set ups may involve bolting fixtures and jaws, setting and adjusting from different tools in cutting tools, setting machine stops, feeds and speeds, checking dimension on set up piece and making final tool adjustments
• Makes autonomous maintenance adjustments to machinery and fluid levels
• Records daily production and is responsible for returning all set up material and paperwork to proper areas
• Responsible for periodic part inspection to assure production of quality parts
• Operator is solely responsible for checking the part from first piece through periodic inspections
• Trains and assists new operators on set up and operation of machines
• Attends and contributes to team EI meetings
• Responsible for 5S of machines and work area
• Regular and predictable attendance

Qualifications, Skills & experience

• High School diploma or GED required
• Applied knowledge of Controls and Instrumentation
• Applied knowledge and ability to read blueprints and assemble parts according to specification
• Knowledge of manufacturing quality
• Applied knowledge of mechanical inspection tools
• Applied knowledge of hand tools
• Applied knowledge of power tools
• Use of good judgement
• Willingness to cross train in other areas of the plant as required
• Ability to read blueprints
• Ability to read precision measurement equipment
• Ability to work and assist with set ups and training on off shifts
• Ability to read and understand written instructions
• Ability to work well with all other departments

The position is office based,but requiring a substantial amount of time on the shop of a traditional engineering facility.  This facility includes such processes as:  presses, metal forming machines, welding, painting, and warehousing and materials movement equipment
