GKN Wheels showcases market-leading solutions at Agritechnica

As world-leader in off-highway wheel design and manufacture, GKN Wheels is to showcase a number of wheels from its proven Profi range at this year’s Agritechnica exhibition.

The high quality, high-performance Profi solutions deliver a wide range of operational and performance benefits, enabling farmers and end users to improve productivity and efficiency, while at the same time delivering enhanced value over the lifetime of the wheel.

Products on display will feature the patented technology of the Profi-Fit, Profi-Grip and Profi-Flex HS (high speed) ranges, all of which enable original equipment manufacturers and machine operators to produce and use ever-larger and more powerful tractors and farm machinery over prolonged periods of time.

Among the highlights at the exhibition will be the company’s Sprayer wheel. Designed to solve the specific challenges of working with agricultural sprayers, this high-performance wheel provides a consistent connection between the tyres and machine, regardless of the prevailing ground or climatic conditions.

Flexibility and Tyre Protection

The Sprayer wheel features GKN Wheel’s patented Profi-Fit TW profile, which brings a wide range of unique advantages, including faster, easier and more efficient tyre fitting, A lighter weight wheel which also offers improved safety and a greatly reduced risk of tyre damage, critical on the new IF and VF sprayer tyres which are currently being launched. These tyres have a very rigid tyre bead which can easily be damaged on a standard rim, whereas the Profi-Fit design protects the tyre.

The wheel also benefits from GKN Wheel’s world class painting standards, which gives it a class C5 ‘marine standard’ corrosion protection, as well as great flexibility in batch sizes to improve stock holding efficiencies for customers. John Madsen, GKN Wheels’ Commercial & Engineering Director, said: “Designed by our outstanding engineers, tested according to all applicable standards and produced in our worldclass facilities, our Sprayer wheel sets the standard in the market.

“Having worked extremely closely with our customers in the development of this wheel, we are delighted that it is providing solutions to everyday issues, delivering outstanding quality, performance, reliability and efficiency.”

Getting to Grips with the Problem of Slippage

Also on display will be the patented Profi-Grip range, which was developed in partnership with a number of customers and tyre partners to solve the increasing problems with tyre slippage on high Horse Power (HP) tractors. Tyre to rim slippage has become a major problem for farmers, many of whom have had tyres destroyed from slippage, without being able to detect the problem before it was too late.

The unique profile was designed to prevent tyre to rim slippage, with the wheel’s unique design serving to minimise rim-shrinkage and protect the tyre when used at low pressure. The design also improves the contact pressure between tyre and rim, and also features the patented TW profile, making the fitting of tyres faster and easier.

A Perfect Fit

The Profi-Fit wheel provides an innovative solution for low pressure tyre applications and features a rolled over flange which improves rim strength and minimises the risk of tyre damage during fitting. The unique 15° angled section of the profile is more than double the minimum requirement of the TRA/ETRTO standard – adopted by other manufacturers. As a result, the wheel is much easier and faster to install and inflate – and enables tyres to be fitted at pressures below 2.5 bar. The patented TW profile also achieves a 40% stress reduction in critical areas.

Finally, an example from the Profi-Flex HS (high speed) range will also be on display, the wheel featuring a manually adjustable track wheel for work in different row widths. Designed for lowpressure tyre applications, the wheel design combines durability with reduced weight and easier tyre fitting, wih the rolled-over flange providing improved rim strength and minimising the risk of tyre damage during installation.

John Madsen continued: “Agritechnica is one of the world’s leading exhibitions and provides a great platform for us to showcase our product ranges and to demonstrate their benefits. Our team is looking forward to welcoming visitors to our brand-new stand, C27 in hall 4.”
