Challenge: Wheel failures in demanding environment
“High number of working hours – heavy loads on wheels ….Robots don’t take breaks or strike….”
• A major OE of AGV machines, suffered wheel failures with competitor wheels after 30-36,000 hrs. In a demanding port environment, just one wheel failure blocks the whole port operation.
Solution: Innovative design to solve the problem
• The customer was refused help from their supplier and so moveero’s European based engineering team stepped in to help.
• Working with the customer and the port to understand the failures and requirements, the moveero team worked to design a product and process, that solved the problem and was also a patented innovative design.
• In house and in-field tests have proved that the wheel can withstand higher loads and has 2 times longer life than a standard Multipiece wheel, which leads to reduced costs over the lifetime and increased vehicle uptime.
• moveero delivered a customized design, the Infini-Forge wheel, which was tested and validated through joint field stress measurement at their port location.
Outcome: New business awarded business for all new AGVs, despite the wheel being more expensive than a standard wheel.
• Replaced competitor wheels on Automated Gantry Vehicles (AGV) fleets running.
• Vehicle uptime, imperative in safety critical, demanding situations that require durability and stability.
• With AGV’s the need to operate reliably and safely 24/7 is imperative. The automatization allows terminals to operate during the night reducing labor costs and increasing efficiencies.
• Europe’s largest container terminal has all 72 of its AGV’s running with Infini-Forge wheels.
• There are over 300 AGV’s running with Infini Forge wheels globally.
• moveero’s customer and the operator of the AGV terminals across Europe and mandate that all Konecranes vehicles under their operation are fitted with Infini-Forge wheels.
